* EMBOSSING MAGIC *

Embossing is one of the most amazing and creative parts of card making. When you emboss, your card making and rubber stamping will not only come alive, you will make it glitter and sparkle far better then any glitter card you buy in a shop.

GETTING STARTED

Getting started is so easy and is not expensive, all you need is paper or card, rubber stamps, a selection of quality coloured or glitter embossing powder and a heat gun.

RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE BEST JOB

The easiest and fastest way to start embossing is to experiment, the more you try, the more you will be pleased with what you create and want to do more.

NOTE: to emboss your stamped area, you must use the correct inkpad, if you do not you will not achieve the desired effect. You must use an embossing or pigment ink and not a dye ink, please see our Hints and Tips - 'Inkpads' for more information about using the correct inks.

SPECIAL NOTE: please do not make the mistake of trying to use a hair dryer as the heat is too great. You must use a heat gun designed for embossing for best results.

PREPARATION IS IMPORTANT

Prepare your chosen paper or card and choose your rubber stamp and embossing powders for the project you are about to create. Stamp your inkpad gently but evenly over the surface of the rubber stamp. With your card on a flat, even surface, position your rubber-stamp and press down firmly and evenly. Carefully remove the rubber stamp (especially on glossy or less absorbant card) sprinkle your chosen embossing powder over the inked area. Lift your card and shake off the surplus embossing powder then apply the embossing heat gun over the area and watch the embossed area swell, glitter and glow depending on the type of powder you have chosen.

embossing powder top tips Embossing is not expensive and a 14g or 30g jar will last you a long time. When embossing do your project over a sheet of pre-folded paper (satin or glossy paper rather than matt to flow easily), this will then catch all the surplus embossing powder which you can then fold and put back into your pot and re-use it again and again.

top tip to save your embosing powder so as to use again and again

MOVING ON

Embossing is incredible
using the right embossing powder on the right card
with the right tools you will be amazed
and so will the people you give or sell your cards to. But it doesn't stop there . . once you get the hang of it you will become more creative and will want to do much more.

For your next project you can be even more creative. Apply a dye ink to your rubber stamp and make your impression on your card or paper. Then using an embossing pen, infill the areas within the lines. Do a little at a time and emboss as explained above. Don't be frightened to experiment and use different colours fading into each other the effects can be quite stunning. Once you have mastered the basics there will be no stopping you. It is all down to trial and error, being creative and how much time you want to spend

Remember there are never mistakes in crafting - only 'CREATIVE ACCIDENTS'
